Product Description

The What Questions kit is a specialized set of distraction-free flashcards focused on one of the most critical aspects of early language development: answering "What" questions. While many children can label objects, transitioning to answering questions about those objects requires a higher level of cognitive processing.

SpeechGears has meticulously designed these cards to be clean and focused, ensuring that the child’s attention remains entirely on the concept being taught rather than being lost in complex backgrounds or unnecessary visual noise.

Features

Graded Learning System: The set includes 36 flashcards graded from Level 1 to 36, organized by the complexity of the concept and the ease of sound production.
Distraction-Free Design: High-quality imagery with minimal backgrounds to help children with attention difficulties focus on the primary subject.
Comprehensive Coverage: Targets a variety of linguistic categories, including nouns, verbs, adjectives, and prepositions.
Safe & Durable: Made from premium food-grade materials, designed to withstand daily use in clinical and home environments.
Optimal Sizing: At 155 mm × 110 mm × 40 mm, these cards are perfectly sized for visual clarity and easy handling.

Benefits

Builds Core Vocabulary: Helps children move beyond simple labeling to functional language use.
Enhances Comprehension: Specifically targets the "Wh-" question milestone, a critical step in social communication and academic readiness.
Boosts Confidence: The graded system allows parents and therapists to start with "easy wins," building the child's self-esteem as they master each card.
Supports Neurodiverse Learners: Highly effective for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Speech Sound Disorders, or General Developmental Delays.

How to Use

Start with Familiarity: Select cards (referring to the 1–36 grading) that feature objects or actions your child already encounters in their daily routine.

The "What" Prompt: Show the card and ask a clear question, such as "What is the boy doing?" or "What is this?"

Positive Reinforcement: When the child identifies the object or action correctly, provide immediate praise to maintain interest.
Gradual Progression: Once the child is comfortable with the lower-numbered cards, slowly introduce more complex concepts to expand their linguistic range.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Q: Why are "What" questions so important for my child?

A: "What" questions are often the first type of inquiry a child learns to answer. They form the foundation for basic conversation, allowing a child to share information and express their needs.

Q: Can these cards be used for non-verbal children?

A: Yes. These cards are excellent for receptive language training. You can ask the child to "Point to what is [action]" to assess their understanding even before they are speaking.

Q: How is the grading system determined?

A: We grade the cards based on common childhood experiences and the phonetic ease of the words, ensuring a smooth learning curve from simple nouns to more complex actions.

Q: Are the materials safe for my child?

A: Absolutely. SpeechGears uses food-grade materials for all our flashcards. However, as with all small educational tools, parental supervision is required to prevent choking hazards.
